			The TR and Majority Text both read εἰσῆλθον (“entered”), while the Critical Text reads ἐξῆλθον (“went out”). Most TR based English translations, including the NKJV, MEV, and even JP Green’s version, render it “went out.” Why? There are a couple of things happening:

			Scribal harmonization: Since 1 John 4:1 says “many false prophets have gone out into the world,” some translators (and scribes) likely felt the wording should match for consistency. That may explain why modern TR-based translations followed “went out” instead of “entered,” even though the Greek says otherwise.

			Influence of the Critical Text: Translators often consult multiple editions (TR, MT, CT). Even those who lean TR sometimes adopt readings that seem to “make more sense” contextually or fit familiar language. In this case, many simply went with “went out” because it lined up with 1 John 4:1.

			JP Green’s choice: Green was strongly Byzantine, but in his interlinear he does show “entered” under εἰσῆλθον. When he produced his English translation, however, he chose “went out.” Why? Possibly because he thought the context demanded it, or because of the influence of familiar renderings. In other words, his interlinear is faithful to the text, but his translation sometimes reflects interpretive decisions.

			This is a place where translators allowed outside factors (context, harmonization, CT influence) to override the TR reading. If someone wants to be strictly faithful to the TR, the correct rendering should be “entered into the world.”

			It’s a subtle example, but it shows how even pro-TR translators sometimes leaned on the CT without admitting it.
