Ye know that after two days is [the feast of] the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.

汝等二日の後に逾越（すぎこし）となることと、人の子は十字架につけらるるために付さるることを知る。

Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,

そのとき祭司長等及び学者等並びに民の長等、カヤパと云はるる祭司長の中庭に集まりて、

And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill [him].

譎（いつはり）にてイエスを拘（とら）へ、且つ殺すために協議せり。

But they said, Not on the feast [day], lest there be an uproar among the people.

Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

またイエスのベタニヤの癩病者なるシモンの家におはししとき、

There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat [at meat].

〔一人の〕婦、価高き香油の〔入りたる〕蝋石の壺を持ちて彼の許に進み来れり。穫て彼の席に着き給ひしとき、その頭に注げり。

But when his disciples saw [it], they had indignation, saying, To what purpose [is] this waste?

然るに弟子等見て腹立てり、云ひけるは、此の無益なる費（ついゑ）は何のためぞや。

For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.

そは此の香油を多くの〔銀子〕に売りて、貧しき者に施すことを得たればなり。

When Jesus understood [it], he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.

乃ちイエス知りて彼等に曰へり、汝等は何とて婦を悩ましむるや。そは良き行を彼は我がために行ひたればなり。

For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.

そは毎（つね）に貧しき者は汝等は己自らと共にもてど、我をば毎に汝等はもたざればなり。

For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did [it] for my burial.

そは此の〔婦〕の我が體に此の香油を注ぎしは、我が葬（ともらひ）のために為したればなり。

Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, [there] shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.

誠にわれ汝等に云はん、全世界いづれの処にても、此の福音の宣べらるる処にて、此の〔婦〕の為ししことも、その想い出のために話たらるるならん。

Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,

そのとき十二のうちの一〔人〕なるイスカリヲデのユダと云はれし者、祭司長等の許に往きて、

And said [unto them], What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.

いひけるは、我彼を汝等に付（わた）さば、何を汝等は我に与へんと欲するや。乃ち彼等は銀三十を彼に据ゑたり。

And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

さればそのときより彼を付（わた）さんために、好き機をば彼は索めたり。

Now the first [day] of the [feast of] unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?

かくて酵除（たねのけ）の始〔の日〕に弟子等イエスの許に進み来りて、云ひけるは、逾越（すぎこし）を喰ふべく汝のため、何処に我等の備へんことを欲し給ふや。

And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.

乃ち彼曰へり、市のかくかくの者の許に往け、且つ彼にいへ、師は云ひ給ふ、我が期は近づけり。われ汝の許にて我が出子等と共に逾越（すぎこし）を為すべし。

And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.

乃ち弟子等イエスの彼等に指図し給ひし如くに為して、逾越を備へたり。

Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.

かくて夕になりければ、彼は十二と共に席に着き給へり。

And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

また彼等の食しつつありしとき、彼曰へり、誠に我汝等に云はん、汝等の一〔人〕我を付（わた）すならん。

And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?

されば彼等一方ならず哀しみておのおの彼に云ひ始めたり、主よ、或ひは我なるか。

And he answered and said, He that dippeth [his] hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.

乃ち彼答へて曰へり、我と共に手を皿に浸せる者、此の者は我を付すべし。

The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.

如何にも人の子は彼に就きて録されたる如くに往く。されど人の子をすかの人は禍なるかな、かの人は生まれざりしならば良かりき。

Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.

然るにユダ、彼を付せし者答へていへり、ラビ、或は我なるか。彼に云ひ給ふ、汝はいへり。

And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed [it], and brake [it], and gave [it] to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

また彼等の食しつつありしとき、イエスパンを取り、且つ祝して擘（さ）きたまへり。かくて弟子等に与へて曰へり、取れ、喰へ。此れ我が體なり。

And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave [it] to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

また杯を取り、且つ感謝し、彼等に与へて云ひ給ひけるは、みなそれより飲め。

For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

そは是れ新契約の我が血にて、多くの者に就きて罪の赦のために流さるるものなればなり。

But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.

されどわれ汝等に云はん、、かの日我が父の国にて、新しき〔ものを〕汝等と共に飲むまで、葡萄の此の実より〔のものを〕我が必ず飲まじ。

And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

かくて讃美を歌ひつつ彼等はエライオンの山にま出で往けり。

Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.

そのときイエス彼等に云ひ給ふ、汝等みな此の夜のうちに我に躓かさるるならん。そは、われ牧者を撃たん、されば群の羊は散らさるべし、と録されたればなり。

But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.

されどわれ起きて後、汝等に先立ちてガリラヤに往くべし。

Peter answered and said unto him, Though all [men] shall be offended because of thee, [yet] will I never be offended.

然るにペテロ答へていへり、仮令みな汝に躓かさるるとも、我は決して躓かされまじ。

Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

イエス述べ給ひけるは、誠にわれ汝に云はん、此の夜のうち鶏の鳴くに先んじ、三たび汝は我を否むべしと。

Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.

ペテロ彼に云ふ、仮令われは必ず汝と同に死なざるべからざることありとも、必ず汝を否まじ。弟子等もみな等しくいへり。

Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.

そのときイエス彼等と共にゲッセマネと云ふ処に来り給ふ。然るに弟子等の云ひ給ふ、此処に坐せよ、その間我は去って彼処にて祈るべし。

And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.

かくてペテロとゼベダイの二〔人〕の子とを携へ〔往き〕つつ、哀しみ且つ頂垂（うなだ）れ始め給へり。

Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

そのとき彼等に云ひ給ふ、我が魂は死なんばかりにいと哀し。此処に留まれ、且つ我と共に目を覚ましをれ。

And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou [wilt].

かくて少し進み往きて、その顔を伏せて祈り、且つ云ひ給ひけるは、我が父よ、もし能ふべくんば、此の杯を我より過ぎ去らしめ給へ。されど我が欲するままにあらず、されど汝のままに〔為し給へ〕。

And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

かくて弟子等の許に来り、且つ寝ぬる彼等を見出し給ふ、さればペテロに云ふ給ふ、汝等はかく一と時も、我と共に目を覚ましをること能はざるか。

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed [is] willing, but the flesh [is] weak.

目を覚ましをれ、且つ試（こころみ）に入り来らぬよう祈れ。是れ霊は如何にも切に望めども、肉弱きなり。

He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

復た二たび去って祈り、云ひ給ひけるは、我が父よ、もし此の杯を飲むまで、我より過ぎ去らしむること能はずば汝の意をならしめ給へ。

And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.

かくて彼は来りて復た寝ぬる彼等を見出し給ふ。そは彼等の目疲れたればなり。

And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

かくて彼等を差しおき、復た去って三たび同じ言を曰ひつつ祈り給へり。

Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take [your] rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

そのとき彼は弟子等の許に来り、且つ彼等に云ひ給ふ、此の余は寝ねよ、且つ休め。見よ。時は近づけり。乃ち人の子は罪人等の手に付（わた）さるるなり。

Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.

起よ、いざ往くべし。見よ、我を付（わた）す者近づけり。

And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.

かくて尚ほ彼の話（ものが）たりておはししとき、見よ、十二のうちの一〔人〕なるユダ到れり。また彼と共に大いなる群衆は剣と棒とをもちて、祭司長等及び民の長老等より〔来れり〕。

Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast.

また彼を付（わた）しつつある者、合図を彼等に与へて、云ひけるは、我が接吻する者は彼なり、それを拘（とら）へよ。

And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.

乃ち直に枯れはイエスの許に進み来りていへり、ラビ、慶（めでた）し。かくて幾度も接吻せり。

And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.

然るにイエス彼に曰へり、侶（とも）よ、何のために来れるや。そのとき彼等進み来りて手をイエスにかけ、且つ彼を拘（とら）へたり。

And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out [his] hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear.

されば見よ、イエスと共にありし者の一〔人〕手を伸べ、剣を引き抜き、且つ祭司長の奴僕を撃ちてその耳を取りはなせり。

Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

そのときイエス云ひ給ふ、汝の剣をその場所に帰せ。そはすべて剣を執る者は剣にて亡ぶべければなり。

Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

或は我は現に我が父を呼ぶこと、また彼は十二軍に余る天使等を、我がために備へ給ふこと能はずと汝等思ふや。

But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

さすれば必ずかくならざるべからずと、〔録されたる〕聖書は如何にして成就せらるべきや。

In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.

その時イエス諸群衆に対（むか）ひて曰へり、汝等は我を捕へんとて強盗に対ふが如く、剣と棒とをもて出で来れるや。日に循ひて我は神殿にて教へつつ、汝等と偕（とも）に坐せしに、汝等は我を拘（とら）へざりき。

But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

されど此は全く、豫言者等の書の成就せらるるために発（おこ）れるなり。そのとき弟子等みな彼を差しおきて遁れたり。

And they that had laid hold on Jesus led [him] away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.

かくてイエスを拘（とら）へたる人々は、学者等と長老等との集まりし、祭司長カヤパの許に彼を連れ往けり。

But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.

またペテロは祭司長の中庭まで、遠くより彼に従へり。かくて内に入り来りて、彼はこの終を見んとて使丁等のうちに坐せり。

Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;

また祭司長等と長老等即ち全議会は、これを死罪に処せんために、イエスに逆らひて偽の証を索めたり。

But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, [yet] found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,

されど何をも見出さざりき。また多くの偽の証人等（あかしびとら）も進み来りたれど、何をも見出さざりき。

And said, This [fellow] said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.

然るに最後に二〔人〕の偽の証人進み来りて、此の者はわれ神の聖所を壊（やぶ）り、且つこれを三日にて建つることを得と述べたり、といへり。

And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what [is it which] these witness against thee?

かくて祭司長立ち上がり手彼にいへり、汝は何をも答へざるか。此等の者の汝に逆らひて証するは何ぞや。

６３
But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.

されどイエスは黙し給ひき。されば祭司長答へて彼にいへり、汝はキリスト、神の子なるや否やを我等にいはんことを、われ生ける神に循ひて汝に命ず。

Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

イエス彼に云ひ給ふ、汝はいへり。尚ほわれ汝に云はん、今より後、汝等は力の右手に手坐し、且つ天の雲に乗りて来る人の子を目のあたり見るべし。

Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.

そのとき祭司長己が衣を裂きて、云ひけるは、彼は冒（けが）せり。何ぞ此の上に証人の要あらんや。見よ、今汝等は彼の冒（けがし）を聞けり。

What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

汝等には如何に思はるるや。乃ち彼等答へていへり、彼は死罪に当たれり。

Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote [him] with the palms of their hands,

そのとき彼等は彼の顔に唾し、かつ拳にてこれを搏（う）てり。また彼等は掌（てのひら）にて叩き、

Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?

云ひけるは、キリストよ、豫言せよ、汝を撃ちしは誰なるか。

Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.

またペテロは外にて中庭に坐せしに、一〔人〕の婢（ぬひ＝下女）進み来りて、云ひけるは、されば汝はガリラヤ人イエスと共にありき。

But he denied before [them] all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.

然るに彼はすべての〔者の〕前にて否めり、云ひけるは、汝何を云ふのかをわれ知らず。

And when he was gone out into the porch, another [maid] saw him, and said unto them that were there, This [fellow] was also with Jesus of Nazareth.

かくて彼は門口まで出で来りしとき、別の〔婢〕これを見て、そこなる人々に云ふ、されば此の者はナザレ人なるイエスと共にありき。

And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.

乃ち復た彼は誓をもて否めり、我はこの人を知らずと。

And after a while came unto [him] they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art [one] of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.　

暫（しばら）くして傍（かたはら）に立てる人々進み来りてペテロにいへり、真（まこと）に汝も彼等のうちなり、そは汝の話（ものがたり）も汝を表（あら）はせばなり。

And after a while came unto [him] they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art [one] of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.

そのとき彼は詛（のろ）ひ且つ誓ひ始めたり、我はこの人を知らずと。かくて直に鶏鳴けり。

Then began he to curse and to swear, [saying], I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.
