'''Minuscule 488''' (in the [[Biblical manuscript#Gregory-Aland|Gregory-Aland]] numbering), ε 4006 (in the [[Biblical manuscript#Von Soded|Soden]] numbering), is a [[Greek language|Greek]] [[Lower case|minuscule]] [[manuscript]] of the [[New Testament]], on paper. [[Paleography|Paleographically]] it had been assigned to the 14th century.[1]
Scrivener labeled it by number 514.[2]
Gregory it labeled twice, as 488 and number 1326 (Soden ε 488).

== Description ==

The codex contains the text of the four [[Gospel]]s on 124 paper leaves ({{×|29|21}}). Written in one column per page, 34 lines per page (size of text{{×|21.5|15}}). It contains tables of κεφαλαια, κεφαλαια, Ammonian Sections, [[Eusebian Canons]], and lectionary markings.[3]
Eorros of [[Iotacism|itacism]] are very frequent and instances of ν εφελκυστικον.[4]

== Text ==

The Greek text of the codex is a mixture of text-types with predominent the [[Byzantine text-type|Byzantine]] element. According to von Soden it represents textual family [[Family Kx|Kx]]. [[Kurt Aland|Aland]] did not place it in any [[Categories of New Testament manuscripts|Category]].[5]

== History ==

The manuscript was brought from the monastery in the Greek Archipelago to England by [[Joseph Dacre Carlyle|Carlyle]] (1759-1804), professor of Arabic, together with the manuscripts [[Minuscule 470|470]], [[Minuscule 471|471]], [[Minuscule 472|472]], [[Minuscule 473|473]], [[Minuscule 474|474]], [[Minuscule 475|475]], and became part of his collection.[2] After his death in 1804 it belonged to the [[Lambeth Palace]] (1180). Charles Burney made a collation only for Mark 1:1-4:16; [[Jesus and the woman taken in adultery|John 7:53-8:11]], it is held in the [[Lambeth Palace]] (1223).[2] In 1817 it returned to the Patriarch of Jerusalem.[3]

The manuscript was added to the list of New Testament manuscripts by [[Frederick Henry Ambrose Scrivener|Scrivener]], who it examined and collated. Scrivener published its text in 1852.[6]

It is currently housed at the Library of Patriarch (139) in [[Jerusalem]].[1]
