Gavin is a school teacher by profession, and a lay preacher who sometimes preaches at Mangrove Mountain Union Church, established in 1912, which is just north of Sydney, near Gosford. Union Churches are part of the historic church fabric of New South Wales and Australia. Mangrove Mountain Union Church is a typical Australian Union Church in that it is independently owned and autonomously administered. This particular Union Church requires that those renting it out subscribe to the Nicene Creed. It is hired out by multiple persons and groups, some of whom are denominationally affiliated and some of whom are not.
