1 And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.
C H A P T E R 24
2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these: the first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
1 And Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came to Him to show Him the buildings of the temple.
3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;
2 And Jesus said to them, "Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, there shall not be one stone left here on another, that shall not be thrown down."
4 Simon the Canaanite and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him.
3 And as He sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, "Tell us, when shall these things be? And what shall be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the world?"
5 Jesus sent forth these twelve and commanded them, saying, "Do not go into the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter into any city of the Samaritans.
4 And Jesus answered and said to them, "Take heed that no man deceives you.
6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
5 For many shall come in My name, saying, 'I am Christ,' and shall deceive many.
7 And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.'
6 And you shall hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled. For all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there shall be famines and pestilences and earthquakes in various places.
9 Provide neither gold nor silver nor brass in your purses,
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
10 nor bag for your journey, nor two coats, nor shoes, nor staffs. For the workman is worthy of his food.
9 "Then they shall deliver you up to be afflicted and shall kill you, and you shall be hated by all nations for My name's sake.
11 "And whatever city or town you enter into, inquire who is worthy in it, and remain there until you go from there.
10 And then many shall stumble, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
12 And when you come into a house, greet it.
11 And many false prophets shall rise and shall deceive many.
13 And if the house is worthy, let your peace come on it. But if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.
12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall grow cold.
14 And whoever shall not receive you or hear your words, when you depart out of that house or city, shake the dust off your feet.
13 But he who endures to the end, the same shall be saved.
15 Truly I say to you, it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that city.
14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world as a witness to all nations, and then the end shall come."
16 "Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
15 "Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place (whoever reads, let him understand),
17 But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues.
16 then let those who are in Judea flee into the mountains.
18 And you shall be brought before governors and kings for My sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
17 Let him who is on the housetop not come down to take anything out of his house.
19 But when they deliver you up, do not worry how or what you shall speak. For in that same hour it shall be given you what you shall speak.
18 Do not let him who is in the field return back to take his clothes.
20 For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.
19 And woe to those who are with child and to those who nurse children in those days!
21 "And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child. And the children shall rise up against their parents and cause them to be put to death.
20 But pray that your flight is not in the winter or on the Sabbath day.
22 And you shall be hated by all men for My name's sake. But he who endures to the end shall be saved.
21 For then there shall be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For truly I say to you, you shall not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
22 And except those days should be shortened, no flesh would be saved. But for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.
24 "The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.
23 "Then if any man says to you, 'Behold, here is Christ,' or 'There,' do not believe it.
25 It is enough for the disciple that he be like his master, and the servant like his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call those of his household?
24 For false christs and false prophets shall arise and shall show great signs and wonders, to such a degree that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
26 "Therefore do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed, and hidden that shall not be known.
25 Behold, I have told you before.
27 What I tell you in darkness, speak in the light. And what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops.
26 "Therefore if they say to you, 'Behold, He is in the desert,' do not go forth, or 'Behold, He is in the secret chambers,' do not believe it.
28 And do not fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
27 For as the lightning comes out of the east and shines even to the west, so also shall be the coming of the Son of Man.
29 Aren't two sparrows sold for a farthing? And not one of them shall fall on the ground without your Father.
28 For wherever the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together.
30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
29 "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give its light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken.
31 Therefore do not fear; you are of more value than many sparrows.
30 And then the sign of the Son of Man shall appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth shall mourn, and they shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
32 "Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven.
31 And He shall send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other."
33 But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.
32 "Now learn a parable from the fig tree: When its branch is yet tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.
34 "Do not think that I have come to send peace on earth. I came to send not peace but a sword.
33 So you, likewise, when you see all these things, know that it is near—even at the doors.
35 For I have come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
34 Truly I say to you, this generation shall not pass until all these things are fulfilled.
36 And a man's enemies shall be those of his own household.
35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My words shall not pass away.
37 "He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.
36 "But of that day and hour no man knows, no, not the angels of heaven, but My Father only.
38 And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.
37 But as the days of Noah were, so also shall be the coming of the Son of Man.
39 He who finds his life shall lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake shall find it.
38 For as in the days that were before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark,
40 "He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.
39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also shall be the coming of the Son of Man.
41 He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward.
40 Then two shall be in the field; the one shall be taken and the other left.
42 And whoever gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water to drink in the name of a disciple, truly, I say to you, he shall in no way lose his reward."
41 Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken and the other left.
42 Watch, therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord will come.
43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched and would not have allowed his house to be broken into.
44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at such an hour as you do not think.
45 "Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord has made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season?
46 Blessed is that servant whom his lord, when he comes, shall find so doing.
47 Truly, I say to you that he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
48 But if that evil servant says in his heart, 'My lord delays his coming,'
49 and begins to strike his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards,
50 the lord of that servant shall come on a day when he does not look for him and in an hour that he is not aware of,
51 and shall cut him in pieces and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
