1 At the same time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"
1 And it came to pass that when Jesus had finished these sayings, He departed from Galilee and came into the region of Judea beyond the Jordan.
2 And Jesus called a little child to Him, and set him in the midst of them,
2 And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them there.
3 and said, "Truly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become like little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
3 The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason?"
4 Therefore whoever humbles himself like this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
4 And He answered and said to them, "Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female'
5 And whoever receives one such little child in My name receives Me.
5 and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave father and mother and shall cling to his wife, and they two shall be one flesh'?
6 But whoever shall cause one of these little ones who believes in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
6 Therefore they are no more two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no man separate."
7 Woe to the world because of stumbling blocks! For it is necessary that stumbling blocks come, but woe to that man by whom the stumbling block comes!
7 They said to Him, "Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce and to send her away?"
8 "Therefore if your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed rather than to have two hands or two feet and be cast into everlasting fire.
8 He said to them, "Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.
9 And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye rather than to have two eyes and be cast into hellfire.
9 And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for fornication, and marries another commits adultery. And whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery."
10 "Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of My Father who is in heaven.
10 His disciples said to Him, "If the case of the man with his wife is so, it is good not to marry."
11 For the Son of Man has come to save what was lost.
11 But He said to them, "All men cannot receive this saying, except those to whom it is given.
12 "What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go into the mountains, and seek what has gone astray?
12 For there are some eunuchs who were so born from their mother's womb, and there are some eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He who is able to receive it, let him receive it."
13 And if it happens that he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray.
13 Then there were little children brought to Him, that He should put His hands on them and pray. And the disciples rebuked them.
14 Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish."
14 But Jesus said, "Allow little children to come to Me, and do not forbid them. For of such is the kingdom of heaven."
15 "Moreover, if your brother trespasses against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother.
15 And He laid His hands on them and departed from there.
16 But if he will not hear you, then take with you one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
16 And behold, one came and said to Him, "Good Master, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?"
17 And if he neglects to hear them, tell it to the Church. But if he neglects to hear the church, let him be to you as a heathen man and a tax collector.
17 And He said to him, "Why do you call Me good? There is no one good but One—that is, God. But if you will enter into life, keep the commandments."
18 "Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
18 He said to Him, "Which ones?" Jesus said, "You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness.
19 "Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven.
19 Honor your father and your mother. And you shall love your neighbor as yourself."
20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there I am in the midst of them."
20 The young man said to Him, "All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?"
21 Then Peter came to Him and said, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?"
21 Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go and sell what you have and give it to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven. And come and follow Me."
22 Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
23 Therefore the kingdom of heaven is compared to a certain king who would take account of his servants.
23 Then Jesus said to His disciples, "Truly I say to you that a rich man shall enter into the kingdom of heaven with difficulty.
24 And when he had begun to settle the accounts, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.
24 And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."
25 But since he could not pay, his lord commanded him to be sold—and his wife, and children, and all that he had—and payment to be made.
25 When His disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, "Who then can be saved?"
26 Therefore the servant fell down and worshipped him, saying, 'Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay you all.'
26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion and released him and forgave him the debt.
27 Then Peter answered and said to Him, "Behold, we have abandoned all and followed You. Therefore what shall we have?"
28 "But the same servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred pence. And he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, 'Pay me what you owe.'
28 And Jesus said to them, "Truly I say to you that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me shall also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
29 And his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, 'Have patience with me, and I will pay you all.'
29 And everyone who has abandoned houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands for My name's sake shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.
30 And he would not, but went and cast him into prison until he should pay the debt.
30 But many who are first shall be last, and the last shall be first."
31 So when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told to their lord all that had been done.
32 Then his lord, after he had called him, said to him, 'O you wicked servant. I forgave you all that debt because you asked me.
33 Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, even as I had pity on you?'
34 And his lord was angry and delivered him to the tormentors until he should pay all that was due to him.
35 So likewise shall My heavenly Father do also to every one of you if you do not forgive your brother his trespasses from your heart."
