Minuscule 45 (in the Gregory-Aland numbering), ε 442 (Von Soden), is a Greek minuscule manuscript of the New Testament, on parchment leaves. Paleographically it had been assigned to the 13th century.[1]

Description

The codex contains the text of the four Gospels on 398 leaves (size 18.5 cm by 13.5 cm) with some lacunae. Written in one column per page, 19-21 lines per page in very neat minuscule letters.[1] Initial letters in gold or red.[2] The codex contains entire of the New Testament, except last its book Rev. It has also some lacunae. The Ammonian Sections and the Eusebian Canons presented. It contains synaxaria and menaion, pictures, and κεφαλαια. Written stichometrically in Gospel of Luke.[3]

The Greek text of the codex is a representative of the Byzantine text-type.[4]

History

The codex was brought from the Athos to England by Caesar de Missy (1703-1775), French chaplain of George III, King of England, who spent his life in collecting materials for an edition of the New Testament. It was examined by Mill, Griesbach, and Wetstein in 1746.[1] It is currently housed in at the Bodleian Library (Barocci 31), at Oxford.[1]
